Hitachi Energy Research, in close collaboration with business areas, is developing foundations for the next generation of Power Grids products. Located in the proximity of Zurich, the research centre employs approximately 60 scientists from all over the world with cross-disciplinary expertise. In the Electromechanics Integration Group we perform cutting-edge research, and look at various aspects of making the power system stronger, smarter and greener. We focus on the challenges and opportunities in enhancing grid flexibility and facilitating renewable energy proliferation. In this context, we offer an internship position which provides the opportunity of working on real-world projects in an international team of research scientists.
Your responsibilities:
• Design and build test-setups to characterize shielding properties of electromagnetic components,
• Derive macro models for various components based on experiments,
• Develop analytical and numerical simulation models for validation and system-level investigations,
• Collaborate with experts in a multi-disciplinary research team,
• Present progress updates and results, and write reports,
• Contribute to scientific publications.
Your background:
• Currently pursuing an M.S. degree in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or a similar sub-ject – official enrolment is essential,
• Basic understanding and interest in electromagnetic theory, transmission line theory, and electromagnetic compatibility,
• Interest in laboratory work and hardware development,
• Experience in programming, for example Matlab, Python, or C++,
• Optional: experience with EM simulations tools, such as 3D full-wave solvers or circuit simulators,
• Written and oral proficiency in English,
• Enthusiastic, motivated and curious with good organizational skills and team spirit,
• Availability for six months, with the possibility of further extension.
